Public Education Experience

• Certificated teacher – Earned my Washington State teaching certificate with a mathematics endorsement in April 2010
​• Credentialed teacher – Earned my California State teaching credential with a mathematics endorsement in May 2015
• Substitute teacher in Washington State from 2009 to the present, and in California from January to May in 2015 
​• Taught in the following public school districts in Washington State: Richland, Pasco, Kennewick, Burbank, Finley, and Benton City
​• Taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District public schools and charter schools, including inner city schools, in Los Angeles, California
​• Taught the following grade levels: pre-school, kindergarten, elementary school, middle school, and high school; assignments included          alternative schools, Tri-Tech vocational high school, Delta science/technology high school, and the Juvenile Justice Center

• 1991 – 2009 Engineer, US Department of Energy; worked as a Facility Representative overseeing activities at various Hanford facilities, including the Tank Farms, the 242-A Evaporator, the Waste Receiving and Processing (WRAP) facility, the Solid Waste facility, the Characterization Project Office, and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL); retired from the Department of Energy in 2009
• 1990 – 1991 Quality Assurance Engineer at Energy Northwest
• 1981 – 1990 Engineer for the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission; worked as a Senior Resident Inspector overseeing activities at the Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station, containing of two boiling water reactors, and worked as an Operator Licensing Examiner administering licensing exams to prospective reactor operators and senior reactor operators at pressurized water reactors
• 1978 – 1981 Engineer for United Nuclear Corporation at Hanford; worked in the Process Standards organization and worked as an instructor teaching certified Reactor Operators and Senior Reactor Operators
• 1974 – 1978 Nuclear Plant Engineer and Engineering Officer of the Watch at the S5G reactor located at the Naval Reactors Facility in Idaho; instructed naval personnel in the operation of nuclear power plants

Military Experience

• 1969 – 1974 US Marine Corps (active duty); served as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam during the Vietnam War; subsequently served as the Training Officer for Marine Corps Air Station (Helicopter) in Tustin, California
• 1974 – 1991 US Marine Corps (reserve duty); served as a helicopter pilot and staff officer for Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 770 located at Whidbey Island, Washington and Marine Light Helicopter Squadron 776 located at Glenview, Illinois; served as the Officer in Charge of Headquarters and Maintenance Squadron 49, Detachment E, located at Glenview, Illinois; retired from the US Marine Corps Reserve as a Lt. Colonel

• Married since 1983 to wife Deborah, a registered nurse
• Washington State resident from 1978 – 1981 and again from 1990 until the present.
• Son Nate graduated from Richland High School and Columbia Basin College (via the Running Start program) in 2004. Suffering a serious injury and becoming confined to a wheelchair soon after graduation, he attended Gonzaga University, earning a BS degree in 2009. He competed as a swimmer for the USA in the Para Pan American games in 2011. He earned his MBA from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles in 2015. 
• Daughter Abigail graduated from Richland High School and Columbia Basin College (via the Running Start program) in 2006. She earned a BS degree from Walla Walla University in 2010 and an MS degree from Washington State University, Pullman in 2015. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Mathematics Education at WSU Pullman, where she is a Teaching Assistant.
